My New Canon EOS 400D aka Digital Rebel XTi
By The Parodist | February 8, 2007
It’s a sheer delight that I am now a proud owner of a Canon EOS 400D! (Or the Canon Digital XTi for North America or Canon EOS Kiss Digital X for Japan)

I bought it last Tuesday, 6 February. Abe and Jayvee went with me to Hidalgo, which I really I appreciate apart from the fact that I wanted company, these two people own a Canon of their own, so, going to a place in Quiapo is not foreign for them (unlike me — funny cuz I studied in UST!)
Anyway, soon after I paid for it, a makeshift photo session was in order — right in the middle of busy Quiapo! They showed me how to put the lens (kit) on the body and left me alone to get acquainted with my new baby. However, street kids swarmed us, seemingly fascinated with the new toy themselves and asked us to have their photo taken (no choice really cuz they wouldn’t leave us in peace! LOL) So, I just played along with it, getting a feel of the light, the equipment and the subjects. Cool experience, I tell you!
Abe already posted his photos, now, it’s my turn.
Group hug! Hehehe.
Thanks to these two people for showing their support and excitement as I venture further into photography.
Purchases of the day:
- Canon EOS 400D Digital
- Canon EF-S 18-55 Kit
- Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
- Ridata Compact Flash Card 1GB
And, of course, I won’t forget Rico. His excitement somehow matches mine that it’s actually funny and sweet. Thanks for making it happen for me! *hug*
Yea, people. The RAZR was just the beginning. Wait till you see what else is in store with as I continue my trek in problogging.
BTW, you can click on them photos for a larger view.

Nice choice for a camera! I bought the same, but it’s the “Kiss Digital X” because it’s the Japanese model. I went with the same 50mm 1.8 but I chose the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 as my main lens. Your pictures look great.
February 8th, 2007 at 9:49 am
Congratulations dear!
I really like your first pictures! Especially the stolen shot of Jayvee.
And that’s probably the best picture of me! Notice how it hides my high hairline.
I can’t wait to see what else you can capture with the Rebel!

The camera that blogging bought!
Congrats! Let’s shoot!

Jun: I can say it’s not if it makes everyone feel better. LOL. Kidding. Er, you want to borrow it?! Sure, if you can manage to pry it from my steel grip! It’s like a mum and her newborn me thinks. HAHAHA.

Did I tell you that I need a Flickr Pro? Ack.
Gdog: Thanks! If you have a flickr account let us know so we can check out your photos! BTW, how did the Tamron fare?
Rico: Thanks, sweetie! Your forehead shows people how intelligent you are!
Gloria: Cheers! (bottoms up!!
)Thanks, Glo!
I reckon there should be!! Let’s ask Jayvee. He bought it in Cebu! LOL.
Elber: Luis! Let’s!! Hahaha.
February 8th, 2007 at 5:46 pm
I thought you were gonna get the 400D at their booth in Photoworld?
Anyway, congrats!
Shoot na tayo!
February 8th, 2007 at 7:06 pm
Markku: Thanks to Abe, I found a sweeter deal in Quiapo! Plus they were willing to go with me, so, how can I say no? LOL. Thanks po! Can’t wait for Saturday!
February 9th, 2007 at 3:29 am
what’s with the trend of bloggers owning Canon digital SLRs… damn! congrats with your new toy!!!
February 9th, 2007 at 3:41 am
[...] I was caught in traffic along the SLEX stretch, busy playing around with my 400D (taking photos of my brother, billboards and, of course, other cars) when I got a call from Jayvee demanding to know where I was! Fine. That’s overstating it. LOL. He just wanted me to join him and Aileen for a Google-sponsored night out over at Cafe Ne Moso in Better Living. [...]
February 9th, 2007 at 3:50 am
Marcvill: Can’t really answer for the rest but I decided to get a Canon since, apart from its features, there is a community of people I know who can help me understand the camera better! LOL. Thanks po! Will you be next?
February 9th, 2007 at 3:55 am
Luis it is, then. Here we go again… same circles, different name.
February 9th, 2007 at 5:27 am
Luis: Aww. I just want to call you by your real name!
Soon, people will recognise both names, Elber and Luis (or the guy behind drivebyshooter.net)
February 9th, 2007 at 12:11 pm

February 12th, 2007 at 7:31 pm
Marcvill: I understand the hierarchy of priorities. LOL. I’m sure given the chance, you’ll buy one soon! Hope all goes well in your house renovation!

hi, thanks for opening this topic for us. i’m actually been taking some time to research about rebel xti. like you, im very much new to this world of photog. havent really given much effort but im planning to buy my very first slr (very first camera in fact!!!) hehehe and take this fascination to the next level. anyway, i’ve been eyeing canon 400D but i wana get some feedbacks where to get it best first. i saw online it was up for $659, but a friend of mine told me about that place in qiuapo (by the way im from ust too but never been there aswell hehehe) he told me they sell pretty good cams at very reasonable price there… so is it true? hollaback okei =) much thanks in advance!
May 11th, 2007 at 6:47 pm
Ann: No worries.
Yes, it’s true. I bought mine over at Quiapo, a street near Hidalgo and the Quiapo Church. Relatively, they sell the cameras cheaper than the ones in the mall. Hope you enjoy photography!
May 17th, 2007 at 1:14 pm
congratulations on the not-so-new-anymore purchase!
mind if i ask how much you got the camera+kit lens for? and the 50mm 1.8? and the 1G CF? and which store in quiapo?
i”ve been planning a trip to quiapo to canvass but i havent gotten around to doing it yet.
thanks!
May 24th, 2007 at 1:28 am
Cher: The cam+kit costed me around Php 40K, the lens around 5K, and the CF, just over a thousand. But the lot was simply priced at Php 45K flat. Package price.

[...] It’s purrrfect! It’s stylish. It’s durable. AND it’s practical. Why practical? Because I can easily fit in my camera, which happens to be a Canon EOS 400D aka Digital Rebel XTi. So, yea — it IS a little big for just a Hobo. Hehe. [...]

DSLR in Quiapo? yes, it actually is. They do have actual shops similar to ones you see in the mall. Price depends on the brand you’ll get.

[...] I’ve owned my Canon EOS 400D since February of this year but it was only over the weekend did I buy a tripod. I’m a n00b and a half about camera equipment so I asked a friend about store locations in the Ortigas area, specifically in Megamall, since I was there. I didn’t want to put off buying the tripod, so, I relied on good common sense and comprehensive questioning of the sales person regarding the product. And yes, I did “handle” the tripod before pulling out my wallet. [...]

Just want to ask how much you bought this for (if that’s allowed, sorry newbie) and where in Quiapo. Also if this is the same as the Canon EOS 40D, what’s the difference if any. Hope you don’t mind. Thanks!
December 17th, 2007 at 1:38 am
Dato: Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Erika: Please see here. 400D and the 40D are different models.

Am going to upgrade from my Lumix FZ7 to well, preferably, a Canon EOS40D. I haven’t done my research yet but what is the main diff between the EOS40D and the EOS400D, apart from the price? I saw the brochure of the EOS40D and there are a lot of good stuff it can do but you kinda have to pay for that. I want to know what I can and cannot live without. So far all the blogs and reviews of the EOS400D seem to be very positive and was a worthy buy for all of them. What’s your take? How did you decide to get the EOS400D? What were your major decision factors?
January 27th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
For the Canon 40D, check this.
As far as I know, the 400D is the best among its DSLR counterparts. Apart from handling and image quality, I like the 400D’s sensor cleaning system. I find the camera a great buy. Another reason why I chose Canon is because I’ve got friends whom I can talk to since they’re Canon users, too.

hey! does anyone know how much this camera kit(including the EF-S 18-55mm lens) costs as of this month or this week maybe? I read the comments and it was about 33.5K last march 2008, i was just wondering if the price was raised…
To the Parodist: i think you bought the kit with the EF-S 18-55mm lens as a standard lens, i was just wondering if it had the auto focus and image stabilizer with it.
Please, i just need to know if the image stabilizer comes standard with the lens you bought along with this camera. i am planning to buy the same camera, with the same lens. Thank you.
