MyBlogLog Widget on The Parody
By The Parodist | March 29, 2007
I recently added the MyBlogLog Recent Readers widget on this blog. I’ve been quite hesitant to do it eversince I signed up for it but, lately, I’ve been thinking that I’d give it a shot and see how you guys would react to it. I know some prefer to be “anonymous” in checking blogs and I wanted to respect that, however, I need to get the general feedback and also see for myself if it will help in cultivating the community.
Here’s what I think.
Upside.
I’d get to know the visitors easily if I know who exactly visits my blog, not to mention, people who frequent it.
Downside.
It can be a turn-off for perennial lurkers.
Lurkers or not, they’re still guests, so, I want to know how to best deal with this sort of thing. So, what do you guys think? Should I keep it? Do you use it on your blog? Care to share some of your experiences or thoughts on why you use the widget?

There goes my anonymity… but it’s ok if people visit my site after seeing my ugly mug on your MyBlogLog widget.

Luis: That’s one upside we can consider about the widget! That it’s a great way for readers to get to mingle with other readers, too. Thanks, Luis! AND no, yours is far for being an “ugly mug” heh.

I just shared my own experience about mybloglog. I get traffic.

Upload an animated GIF as your avatar. It’s fun! See mine, for example.

If you’re a MyBlogLog user and you want to browse anonymously, all you have to do is logout of your MyBlogLog profile page. Or, don’t visit other blogs while you’re logged in to your profile. That’s what I do most of the time, but I do forget to do it sometimes. Hehe

Jozzua: I checked your post. Good one, Ely!

Jonas: That’s a fun idea. I prefer real mugs or at least artsy ones. Hehe.
Jaypee: Oh, I know! I know! But it somehow defeats the purpose, don’t you think? That’s why I don’t believe in the ‘anonymous’ status or lurking. Anyway, if you’re really into that thing, I also found out earlier about a neat trick to go around leaving traces of yourself just in case.

Well, I can probably take a video of myself doing the same thing and convert it into an animated GIF but it would be as sexy…or funny for that matter. In fact, it will be downright scary. Ha ha ha!

Jonas: Gawd! I thought that avatar of yours was harmless! How naive am I? I guess that shows how much I can follow thought patterns of men! Gah.

There are times when I wanna be seen visiting a particular blog and times when I don’t wanna be seen. Hehe
Btw, I was here earlier and I tried leaving a comment but I got error messages from the WP database.

Jaypee: Had problems with my DB. Sorry ’bout that.

It’s all good. So what exactly caused the DB problem? It’s good that you were able to fix it right away.

Jaypee: I’m guessing it’s an unclosed tag. I had somebody edit the post on the blog awards. Too many tags. Missed one. Abe came to my rescue (good thing he was awake at that time!) But, yea, it’s all good.
