Are you being opinionated or simply being catty?
By The Parodist | April 4, 2007
“…simply imagine the person you’re speaking to as a real person, standing in front of you. Would you say what you’re saying to them if you were in the same room?”
— Tim O’Reilly
I love it when people underestimate others. Not in a bad way, okay? It just reminds me of the cliché, “I’ve dug my own grave” or some thought bubble that gives us that effect. I reckon in the event that it comes around, the resounding regret will remind us that the world is indeed a small one and you’ll never know when you’ll need that hand to help you stand back up, esp here in our own little life online.
I have to admit, extremes have their fair share of allure; such as words that are handled too tightly or loosely have their own particular repercussions. However, one will wonder if anyone can ever be prepared for what these words will attract. Human behaviour is such a great source of wonder.
There’s wisdom in all of these. I firmly believe that. Change is imminent. Perhaps when all the confetti have been swept off the floor, the plates and champagne glasses are piled high on the kitchen sink, and all we hear is the tapping of our fingers on our keyboards will we begin to understand that petty is a small word to describe everything that has transpired. What truly matters is our answer to the question, Why do you blog?
Thanks, Abe, for highlighting Tim’s post. I’m all for learning new things everyday.

Well we really cannot expect people to be sensitive and we cannot please everyone. I’ve encountered people like them from other parts of the industry and my boss was right in saying “You shouldn’t apologize for who you are. Just be yourself.” We are here for a higher cause and these people should not slow us down one bit. As Gail said last night, advocacy natin ito and we should fight for it.

Aileen: True. That’s only one incident that this thought applies to, though. What I’m referring to is what Tim’s post touched on — blogger conduct in general. I wanted to let everyone know that something can start as a single word but this one word can multiply a hundred fold that can be equated to a multitude of blessings or, er, you know where I’m going with that, right? Anyway, I’d like to think that your blog is an extension of yourself, heck, it’s your home in the online world. But, we can’t dictate how one should keep their homes, now, can we?
However, I’d like to think that I try to be polite most of the time esp when they also treat me nicely.
Thanks for the tip. I’ll make sure that it’s dry cleaned and pulled up tightly.
Pierre: Thank you for thinking that I don’t get catty but let me tell you this — I do and I can be highly sarcastic, too.
Ron: Oh, I’ve been sleeping soundly but I have to admit that there were times when I went online with a heavy heart.

remind me to tread lightly.

Jester: Consider yourself reminded then. Nah. I’m nice most of the time, so, no worries. Hehe.
