CAPTCHA a Thought

By The Parodist | May 26, 2007

Thought prodderDidja get it?! Oh, I’m so witty.

Kidding aside, though, I just wanted to talk about certain simple things that we sometimes overlook since it seems too trivial to be noticed. Who would’ve thought that you’d get inspiration from a CAPTCHA? I sure didn’t.

If you’re wondering which or what blog’s CAPTCHA I took a screen shot of, well, it’s off the personal blog of my sister, Shai. (Now, do you see the picture? )

I frequent her blog for obvious reasons and, yea, I comment from time to time but I never really paid attention until now. I’ve encountered a lot of versions of CAPTCHA in other blogs or online sites but they’re often just a bunch of alphanumerics that I have to type in a field so I can submit a comment or feedback.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that I appreciate the CAPTCHA that my sister’s using because it makes use of alphanumerics that I can make sense of and, yes, words that can inspire me, like PROGRESS.

This brings me to a post I just read, thanks to Liz Strauss’ SOB Business Cafe 05-25-07, about making everything the bright side. (What a nice, positive thought, eh? :) )

While every person may not have a choice as to what happens, everyone is given a choice as to how they will react. Reaction is the most powerful choice that a person can exercise. Mastering this choice will give you the power to turn hate into love, fear into courage, despair into hope, and death into life.
Alex Shalman of Alex Shalman.com, Practical Personal Development

Which can similarly be applied to turning weakness into strength, threats into opportunities, right? I reckon we need a change in how we see (and deal with) things in order to achieve PROGRESS in anything we’ve set out to do, hence, the need to see the brighter side of the situation — of life.

As what Alex said (and is common knowledge), we can’t control what will happen but have the power to react accordingly. A problem will not remain a problem, it only will if you don’t act on it. Same goes with a word like PROGRESS will remain just a word unless used in a sentence that’s part of a paragraph and grows into an entire blog post like this one.

Here’s another food for thought:

“The price of anything is the amount of life you exchange for it.”
Henry David Thoreau

I don’t know. The quote seems a little off-topic but, somehow, my gut is telling me to include it. (Do you ever get that feeling?) BTW, other words I was able to lift off of my sister’s CAPTCHA were: CARRIED, EFFORTS, PASSED, GLASS, and SOME.

Incidentally, writing this blog post about words — and developing them — reminded me of the fridge magnets that my sister owns. I’d, sometimes, find myself engrossed in piecing together words until they made some sort of sense. There were even times when my nephew (under my supervision) would do the same thing! But, let me tell you this, I was amazed with some of the words he pieced together cuz they made sense! (He was only two years old then!) Hehe.

Before I lose you in my ramblings, what about you? What inspired you today? Do you actively choose to see the positive in things and situations? How much of your life have you spent on your current project?

Yes, sometimes, we do have to answer these types of questions. ;)

Do love the reactions I’m getting from my blog’s CAPTCHA. I’ve read other similar reactions. Sometimes, when they don’t inspire, they can make you laugh. :-)
Oh, and my poetry magnets are in storage at the moment. Cam just won’t leave them alone before we moved. So, I haven’t unpacked them yet. :-p

Sis: Yea, some did make me laugh! And about the magnets, I know what you mean. Hahaha. Cam can be very persistent. ;) He’s probably itching to learn how to read na! He also probably takes after you with his love of books, photographs and poetry magnets. Can’t say I’m surprised!
