Band of Bloggers Now Official; First-ever Photo Published on Mobile Philippines

What started as something informal, just a small group of people with common interests (travel, tech, internet, photography and blogging), had turned into an organization of sorts that even Mobile Philippines, a local gadget magazine, had recognized its existence.
I had to do a double take when I saw it on the cover of the mag’s May-June 2007 issue (the one with Priscilla Meirelles on the cover). I quickly scanned the table of contents to locate the page where I can read more about it. Under Tech Tribes, the BoB was listed together with more known orgs like MaPalad and PhilMUG. Markku Seguerra wrote a short and was recognized as one of the BoB. Twas so cool! So, yea, I reckon the Band of Bloggers is now official, eh? Coolness.
And on the same page, I spotted the photo on Rico‘s short article regarding the Treo 750 launch. It’s one of my photos! Take a look.

I have to admit that I was informed of the possibility that the magazine will use my photos but knowing ahead of time didn’t diminish the excitement I felt when I saw it with my own eyes. I felt so giddy! I wouldn’t be surprised if people in Seattle’s GB3 saw me grinning from ear-to-ear like this! —>
LOL.
For all you people who want to see how the original photo looked like, I thought I’d include it on the post. It’s not much but, hey, I’m relatively new at this sort of thing (just bought my camera last February!
)
Funny thing, actually. I took that photo when I was already inside Rico’s CRV. I didn’t even think that it would amount to much, much less be published in a magazine! Hahaha. Imagine that.
Well, anyway, it really felt good seeing that photo by-line, “Photos courtesy of Sasha Manuel..”
Oh, dear.
Now, they’ve put these dreams of getting more of my photos published in my head!
Well, I reckon you guys should just wish me luck, eh? Dear me. I can be such a dreamer sometimes. Tsk tsk tsk.

How much did you get paid for the picture to be used in the mag? I heard the photo license isn’t much, or is it?
Yuga: Er, sadly, twas seemingly pro-bono.
But last year, had the article (on my sister) pushed through I would’ve gotten paid around Php 1,500 to Php 2K plus credit, of course. Twas for a different publishing house, though. I reckon it was for Summit.
Uh-oh hehehe… makabili nga!
Wow!Coolness!!
Aileen: Go. And tell me what you think of the editorial near the end of the mag. Hehe.
Marcvill: Isn’t it?! Pretty exciting, I should say. Go, BoB!
Hahaha, nakalimutan ko to ah!
Markku: Oh noes. Why? You guys talked about it pa naman daw prior printing. LOL.
I mean nakalimutan ko tignan when I got my copy. Saw the article actually, didn’t realize I wrote it. Hahaha!
Markku: Oh, I get it. That IS funny! You’re used to seeing your name on print, I guess.
Wow! Di na kayo ma-reach! Congrats!
I also had one of my images published in a magazine. Unfortunately, it was a copyright infringement. Some Cavite resort took the map of Cavite I made for Wikipedia and used it in their featured article without attribution, and violating the terms of the license.
Eugene: Oh, don’t look at it like that. Of course, the BoB can still grow and include other bloggers.
Ouch. That would’ve been a good reason to celebrate your work had they given you the credit due to you.
I reckon that still happens. Ask Markku!
I hope you were able to settle the matter amicably.
I’m in there too!
Go BoB!
I’m sleepy.
Luis:
You’re funny! Yea, I read your article nga!
Congrats Sasha and BoB
Dexie: Thanks! Much appreciated
Sasha, I actually did not go after the magazine or the writer anymore. Too much hassle for something that I’m sharing for free anyway.
On the other hand, I’d really like it if ABS-CBN compensated me somewhat when they used my Map of Manila in their show Bandila. I really could’ve used the traffic and recognition.
Eugene: I reckon sending them an email or a letter informing them of your rights is not wrong. You can even tell them you’re not looking for some monetary compensation just due credit because you did make the image, right? And I suggest you do the same with ABS-CBN because you do have to protect your property. I think these people need to be reminded that not everything you get from the internet (assuming that that’s where they found the image) is free and the least that they can do is attribution. And they can always ask for permission, it’s not like your email wasn’t available, right?
Congratulations to you and the rest of the Band of Bloggers! You guys are certainly reaching new heights and are leading the way for other bloggers. The group is an inspiration to all of us Pinoy bloggers.
Jaypee: Wow. That rendered me speechless! Thanks! What a kind thing to say! It’s not like we’ve done a whole lot. Well, at least, not me. Just doing something I love and am passionate about — just like the rest of the Pinoy bloggers, I’m sure.
congrats to you and the gang.
more power and do always share your blessings.
AJ: Thanks! Will do — just like how you’ll share your “iPod” blessing with us!
