Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
By The Parodist | July 25, 2007
As you can see, I’m celebrating the whole Harry Potter mania a bit late it seems. Not only am I blogging about it now, after they’ve finished gushing about the arrival of and reading book seven, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (some even provided spoilers — read and don’t say I didn’t warn you), and watching the latest movie release, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, but I’m also just starting to read the book version of this popular little git of a wizard called Harry.
Oh, yes. I’m not doing the Harry Potter marathon like I did last year with my brother over several days covering all four films. Incidentally, the night before, I watched the fourth installment, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, again with someone who hasn’t seen it but had gone to see the fifth with me.
Anyway, back to my original point, I’ve finally picked up a Potter book and began reading it like I said I had wanted to do. It’s just silly because I had access to my sister’s hard cover copies of the books when I was in Australia but never gotten around to reading them. I guess it was my younger brother who sparked my full interest esp with access to DVDs and all, and the irrepressible vigor of a certain someone over the books and the movies made it all the more enticing and worthwhile to pursue (cuz I have someone to discuss the book with!).
There. I’ve gone and started on the first book installment, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Heh.
So, okay. No amount of spoilers can ever ruin my reading now, don’t you agree? It’s quite fun to read about the characters that are now familiar to me like Hagrid, Albus Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall and even the annoying Dursleys that live on Privet Drive. It’s quite comforting to come across terms like “muggle” and know what it means, and — blimey! — even the writing! LOL. I am thoroughly enjoying the book even when I’m still just starting over at Diagon Alley. Teehee.
How about you guys? Have you read any or all of the Potter books? Let’s take it one book at a time — allowing me to catch up, hehe — as you guys share any special bits about the book you enjoyed most. Think of this as a pseudo-book club session on Harry Potter, Book 1.

Bit of trivia actually: did you know Book 1 is the ninth top-selling book of all time? Only religious and ideological books—like the bible and the koran—have sold more than it!

In UK, It was called the Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. They had to change it for the US Edition. I am a forever Tolkien, Orwell and CS Lewis fan.

Rico: That’s cool. Where didja get that info?

Juned: Oh, yea. I reckon I heard (or read) that somewhere. I’ve read (and thoroughly enjoyed) J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis books (what is it about initials, eh?) but I have yet to read an Orwell.
Gloria: LOL. It isn’t showing there yet? Actually, I just realised that I don’t mind watching the movie again. I enjoy them too much it seems. Does this mean I’m a fanatic, too?

I’ve read all seven books and keep rereading them too. Take your time to read. Enjoy every detail, every word. I’m sure you’d end up pleased. The books are a lot better than the movies.
From one muggle to another - Welcome to Harry Potter’s Wizarding World.

Aaahhh… you missed your chance indeed. I’m currently reading Book 7 — after just re-reading Book 6 and watched #5 in the cinema (I insist on watching all HP movies in the cinema, even if I don’t usualy go to the movies anymore).
Now, I’m definitely planning on collecting all the movies on DVD too.
Yes, yes…. I AM a Harry Potter maniac - and proud of it.
He kept going, “Mummy, read Harry Potter 7 now…” when I was too busy working etc and didn’t read the book immediately. Heh.
BTW, guess who handed me Book 7?

Sis: Awww. I’d like to squish him cuz he makes me feel so *gigil* with him! Grrr. That must have been sooo cute! I remember how he used to use the books as stepping blocks to reach his toys high up the shelf in your study. Hahaha. Now, he knows Harry Potter!

It’s good that you’ve seen HP5 in the cinema, Arnold actually watched in an IMAX theatre in the US! I’m just about done with this book and ready to devour book 2 (you can ask Rico) just how much I pestered him about bringing me the next book. LOL.
Sophie: I believe you’re right. It’s the type of book you’d want to read again. Thank God I started on it. And I reckon I’m already addicted. LOL
