Inspire and Be Inspired

I have never imagined that one day I’d wake up to the fact that I have inspired a person. But somehow, along the way, I have. And the feeling that it brought with it filled my heart with such emotion that even surprised myself.

Some would say that what these people are doing are mere imitations of what I’ve done. But rather than think that, I choose to believe that they were inspired instead and they simply acted upon that inspiration. I’d much rather believe that they, too, have the same passion as I do.

However, I do admit that it sometimes feel like I’m being robbed of my ideas. Flattering or not, imitation is a form of stealing. You really don’t want someone else taking the credit for something you’ve worked so hard on, do you?

I knew I had to take a step back to survey the situation. Instead of dwelling on the negativity, I had found myself asking this question, “Why is it your passion?”

It is not a passing fancy. It’s been tried and tested through time and experience. It is my own personal creative expression. My curiosity peaked while I was still young, developed as I grew up. I have a strong desire to master and perfect it. I have original ideas. It enjoys its independence.

With the answer came a realisation.

I reckon I now understand the situation far better. It certainly feels good to know that something I do for myself triggers a want in people — perhaps to explore a similar passion. I hope they learn to let go and go off on their own — no training wheels and all — and find their own voice. The idea that there are people who know me and find inspiration in what I’ve done makes me feel grateful.

Why am I grateful? Because I am inspired in return.

So, I suggest that you guys go and let your passions inspire people.

As I’ve told you countless times, inspiration is a form of flattery. So be inspired and flattered!

Sometimes, the inspiration you provide may not be that obvious. But it’s there. ;)

It feels great to have inspired someone, somehow, and there is a line between getting inspired, and copying someone. With getting inspired, you go your own way, with a grateful memory of your mentor that gave you all her good vibes to make you start something great, whereas being copied naman – you feed off from your mentor, as you plan their downfall. Hay, grabe, I can relate. :( I do pay it forwards with others, but some scheming people, parang ayokong palampasin.

    Finch: Right on. :)

Rico: Thanks for always reminding me, sweetie. :)

Sophie: It’s true. It’s hard to deal with because it feels like these people betrayed you. But I guess just think that these people who try to take the credit for ‘coming up’ with your idea are just a bunch of sad, sad individuals. They won’t get far.
