Turn Me A New Leaf
By The Parodist | January 7, 2008
A new year would almost always signify a new start. Not exactly a clean slate, just the idea of doing things better this time around, all for the better. Did I make sense?
We’ve had millions of opportunities to make things better in the past. We grab some, we waste some. Intentionally, unintentionally. With reason and without. Do we do it in equal amounts? Justifiable, perhaps. But I really can’t answer that for you. Admittedly, to say the least, we do allot a certain portion of our time in seeking out mistakes and correcting them.
Books are so predictable. Esp the ones we’ve already read. We already have an idea what to expect with each page, each chapter, till we reach the end and close it. If only life could be that predictable. Then again, it would be as beautiful, huh?
Some people seek consistency and security that life will never, ever meet. We can’t expect heaven on earth now, can we? So, change being to only constant thing — I apologise for using the cliché — we can only do our best to adapt and keep up. And those who can’t are forced to retreat into their own shell, holding onto whatever will provide them security.
And then there are people who find comfort in organisation. We list and plan. I attribute the popularity of planner giveaways to that human trait and not simply to the blatant superficial value that owning a Starbucks planner often represents. Heh. It’s our way of controlling our life. Getting a grip on it.
New year. Same life.
There are some days when I can’t help but think that what they say is true, “it (life) just doesn’t get any easier.”

I was into planners too in he past but found that I usually lose heart to update me come Feb or March. I still use one though but only to keep track of expenses, etc. I admire people who are organized.

Em: I would sometimes go on and off with my planner, too. But I’m a bit of a list person so I tend to go back to it time and time again.

Phoebe: How do you do that? Can I see it when we each other again?
Sophie: I can sympathize. Esp when you keep a busy sched, no? I promise to use mine din so I won’t forget to attend your events.
