Of New Things and Saturday Afternoons

20140329-181711.jpg

For someone who's big on routines, finding myself in situations wherein I'm faced with choices that fall outside of my comfort zone will surely entail a little rattle and shake. I'd often just say no and walk away to anything that's new. But then there's this voice that says I'm too young to be too set in my ways. How would I discover what I want in life knowing I have yet to experience a multitude of things, to walk many an unbeaten path, to satisfy the senses with strange and foreign stimuli? Would I have known that I'd find Negitoromaki such an orgasmic gastronomic affair that lasts a minute of forever if I didn't let go and trust the chef's recommendation? I would have walked the ends of the earth with just the knowledge of the … [Read more...]

36th Year: New memories and one wish

Sasha Manuel at 50th Street Cafe, Restaurant & Bar

If the universe shows you a new path to take, put a spring in your step and go. You will have questions. You will have fears. But always remember that your time on the road to a good life will bring new things, new memories; good things, good memories. This year has been a rollercoaster of events, periods of lull and loneliness to moments too special and poignant yet brief. Shifting from a comfortable life into a high gear filled with terrifying changes; all points to one thing -- a reminder that this is what it means to say you're alive. For folks who really know me and how I celebrate my birthdays, this year offered a colossal difference to how I went about my special day. Moving to a new place (a different country) with no … [Read more...]

Mood Notes: Leaving and living; life starts anew

20131203-224843.jpg

How do you leave a place you love without a shadow of a doubt? You will agree with me that there is no easy way. Life beckons. Fate takes you on a new journey; unchartered, quick, challenging. You now will fly off the nook and nestle, albeit perhaps temporary, in a new place. You will wake up to a new sunrise; sleep under unfamiliar stars.  You take things in, wary but curious. To smell if the coffee is strong enough to jolt your senses awake. To see if the grass is indeed greener. To listen to trees and solidify where your soul is rooted and where it plans to branch out. To know if this is what it truly feels like to see your dreams coming true. --- How do you tie loose ends? A daunting task, idle thoughts whisper. A … [Read more...]

A Weekend of Dogs and Horror Movies

20131015-150649.jpg

My plans for that weekend were simply composed of the UAAP finals game on a Saturday, and writing plus coffee on a Sunday. However, it's refreshing to have my weekend not totally altered, just made a little special. Thematic, no less! Saturday Saturday early evening, after the game, I found myself driving along the long stretch of Daang Hari on my way to meet up with cousins. It's been a while since I last hung out with them and I was looking forward to it. However, I have to admit highlight of my night was this adorable canine: a one-year old Chow Chow called Kelsey. Kelsey, a Chow Chow If you were to judge our relationship with just this photo, you wouldn't believe that I can paint our first meeting with a drastic … [Read more...]

The Road to Happy

2013-02-21 23.30.04

“Let us be grateful to the people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.” ― Marcel Proust I only have a week left in my trip and had little expectation of anything else that would make it more special than it already is. However, my sister had one last trick up her sleeve. Spoiler. The Road to Happy The Road to Happy - Scrapbook made by Shai Coggins esp for me My heart. Big sis had taken time and effort to make me one of her awesome scrapbooks as a farewell gift. MELT. I go cry nao. I've always admired her artistic skills and enjoyed looking at scrapbooks she'd make for her kids. We'd talk about the how's and the why's, sharing bits about my own foray in the arts, i.e. recent … [Read more...]

NYE x NYD: Animated!

NYE x NYD Animated photos gif, Australia | The Parody by Sasha Manuel

Admission: I don't like backlogs for photos. This just might be the reason why I take lesser photos now than I used to. Or that I prefer using MrForest (an iPhone 4S) over MrSixty (a Canon 60D) apart from the more obvious reason: size. Over the holidays, with countless things going on and my entire being fixed on vacation mode, i.e. spending less time in front of the computer, et al. So, come the time I had to update my camera uploads (thanks, DropBox!), I'm buried with loads. THEN I get too lazy to work on them. Work-around: I try to come up with themes either for a Facebook album upload or a blog post as I work through stacks. Animated NYE x NYD photo set I found a bunch of photos I took using a remote and with MrSixty fixed … [Read more...]

5 and 30 Years

5 and 30 years | The Parody by Sasha Manuel

With all this hullabaloo about the world ending yesterday, I thought I was saved from having to write this. Since my plans of dying a year younger than I am now failed, let's couple the celebration with a birthday. Ironic, isn't it? I reckon looking back to the last 5 years with a bit of random trivia can lighten up the somber mood. I get to have 5 wishes, too! Thirty Quietly welcomed it through writing, music and coffee at Starbucks. Blogged about it here: Celebrating A Birthday. Random trivia: My birthday should've been 14th of December had I decided to come into the world on time. I reckon I was such a good little girl even before I was out of my mother's womb since, due to certain, er, let's just call them inconveniences at … [Read more...]

The Land of Green and Gold

Horse Paddock, Weeds, Narnu Farm, Hindmarsh Island, South Australia, Australia | The-Parody.com, Online Journal of Sasha Manuel

I like Roadtrips. I do. I imagine it filled with offbeat music, long chats, junk food, odd encounters, and peculiar imagery -- all these will form part of the "remember when.." stories which will fuel future conversations. Traveling by road will definitely allow folks to bond. Well, I happen to think that traveling does help one get a glimpse of the other person's personality. A few days spent away from the city was received with delight. It's expected that I will take photos but I wasn't really planning to conduct a photo project on my own. It was simply a case of losing sleep due to the cold, fascination with the sunrise and horses, and the guilt over not spending more time with MrSixty as I should. A humble effort to capture the … [Read more...]

Oz Highlights: The Road Warrior hits Oz streets x #FoodHack x Mini Masterpiece

Pink car, Yvonne, Ford | The-Parody.com

One of the things that I want to try whenever I travel is to drive. I can't help it. It's the curiosity, the need to know if my driving skills aren't limited to driving on Manila streets. A week in and earlier today, I did and, as lame as it may sound, it was the highlight of my day, haha. Meet Yvonne, the set of wheels I got my hands on. My sister's pink Ford Festiva It was a trip around the corner sort of drive; a short 2-3 km-ish distance from the garage to the house but I was glad I had the opportunity to do it. My sister did offer me free use of her car if I want to, however, I'm a bit unsure if I should. I did try to drive on Oz streets before (both A/T and M/T types), also drove in Yangon with its crazy right-hand driving … [Read more...]

I choose Summer

Australia | The-Parody.com - Online Journal of Sasha Manuel

A quick record of initial impressions on what lies ahead. Curious that sentiments are a touch lethargic and pedestrian, taking in circumstances that are extraordinary and somewhat reflective of a charmed life, I find myself disoriented. Mind over matter, I tell myself. It's not that the luster's lost nor that the high it brings has gone missing, it's the contrived sense of life. However, I am rooting for the will to win over the heart. I believe choices mold your life. ".. if [she] would be beautiful and happy in her November of life, she will cherish all her present powers of mind." -- Jane Austen, Persuasion Wrapping my head around the thought that I live a life wherein there are no mistakes. It may appear so, most of the … [Read more...]
