When Your Momma Goes Back To School
By The Parodist | November 15, 2007
It can mean a whole lot of things. I can either be witnessing a historical moment wherein time is moving in reverse or there’s some bug in the air wherein people refuses to put age as a real obstacle to chasing their dreams. Whoever said you’re too old to do anything or even start doing something? My mum clearly is a great example that the will is stronger than the norm, proving that age is indeed just a number.
I watched her make reports. I witnessed how she’d study for written and practical exams. I learned of her high marks on said exams, too. I was half amused and half in awe. Twas surreal. I, sometimes, would want to pinch myself to see if it’s really happening. Ouch. Well, it’s all real, alright. Heh.
I even saw her with her prof and the rest of the class yesterday. She had asked if I could take their photo and, surprisingly, asked if I could post it on my blog. Yes! She requested me to post their photos! With my surprise at being asked, I couldn’t help but just agree to it. Dear me.

An Invitation to a Blogger Mixer
By The Parodist | November 10, 2007
One of the great things about blogging is when we get that chance to put a face behind the blog we frequent. We grab every opportunity to connect with these people we relate to in the blogosphere, offline. Personally, there are a number of bloggers I wish to meet in person but, alas, location is always an issue. It’s geographically impossible. However, will we pass up on the opportunity to meet the ones who live relatively nearby?
This month, I’ve got family coming to the country to visit. Boy, am I ever so excited to see my nephew, Cameron, again and to finally meet my niece, Hali, in person. Of course, their parents are with them. Hehe. Which brings me to my point, my sister (being the mum) will be in town and has put out an invitation to meet local bloggers. She’s heard a lot about the blogging events we’ve had in the past that’s why she’s pretty keen on meeting the people who form the Philippine blogosphere. My sister, Shai, is one of the owners and VP for Community of b5media, a Canada-based global blog network.
“The second meet-up will be on the 30th of November (Friday PM), which is going to be a general meet-up of Bloggers in Manila. Yes, if you’re a blogger based in Manila (or willing to come and meet us), YOU’RE INVITED to the party.” — Shai Coggins, ShaiCoggins.com
And if you frequent The Bayanihan Blog Network main blog, we’ve also posted an invite to this Blogger Mixer there.
All of us Philippine-based b5media bloggers are going to have an intimate dinner scheduled on the 29th with Shai. And scheduled the following night, 30th November, the Blogger Mixer, which is open to all bloggers who wish to get together and share a night with other bloggers in the ’sphere, will be my sister ’s chance to meet and mingle with all of us.
We’re still making final arrangements for the venue but as soon as things are in place, I’ll update you (better stay tuned!) or better yet, if you have a Facebook account, RSVP on the event page and check it regularly for updates. There are people who already signed up for it, so, don’t leave yourself out in the cold.
The Blogger Mixer will be a great opportunity to make new friends and network your blogs. There will be b5media schwags and a few more knick-knacks to be given away.
I really hope you guys can make it. I’d love to meet you guys in person (if I haven’t) and I’d love to hang out with you for even just a little bit (if I have) on that night. If you’re interested or if you’ve already decided to go, let me know by leaving a comment. That way, I can keep an eye out for you!
See you there!

Halloween, Cemeteries and Domain Renewals
By The Parodist | October 31, 2007
Happy Halloween..? Er, not entirely sure if you need me to greet you that. Do we really know what “halloween” is? We don’t have that in our country. Halloween is just an excuse to party and get candies for the rich kids. Oh, tell me I’m wrong. Heh.
What we do have (and give a damn about) is the All Souls-slash-Saints Day, right? We spend “Hallow’s eve” or the 31st in the cemetery or panchon to spend some time with both the living and the dead. Do you and your family still practice this? My family does. We do it as a reason to get together like a reunion of sorts. I’ll be at Manila Memorial in Sucat later, together with the rest of the Padura clan. Anyone want to meet up? Let’s all go see Ninoy Aquino’s grave. Hehe.

Scattered Thoughts and Ink Spilled
By The Parodist | October 15, 2007
With words spoken, thoughts start flying out in every direction. I try to capture them, snatch whatever I could reach.
I flail.
I run.
I reach.
I fall.
Sitting up and staring at my left fist, I wonder what I’d discover hidden within. Hope resides amongst ill-feelings and doubts. Wishing I’d break free and feel the rush of satisfaction with a set of stringed words, meaning and all.
I hope.
I write.
I wish.
Fervently.
There will always be tomorrow. Maybe.

D Ball Served Hot, Off to Finals
By The Parodist | October 14, 2007
You would think I work for MBSTek with all the photos I have of and with these people. Heh. I guess a photographer cum glorified mascot for their sportsfest would best describe my presence. Oh, believe me, I tried out for “muse” but Sharmskee wins, hands down. Heehee.
I reckon since I mentioned our favourite Cinderalla Team when I asked for tips on Sports Photography, better that I update you on the good news —
It’s D Ball, baby!
Yes. The Red Diablos cinched the semis and are off to finals next month. As fate would have it, they’ll be facing the Green Team once again. Are we witnessing the birth of a rivalry?
Elegant. That’s one word I can use to describe the boys’ playing that night. And there’s heart. I saw that these boys really wanted to win. They kept their cool even when they lost three quarters in a row. Scoring was pretty close but they pulled away at the last quarter, winning the game. It was fantastic to see D players up their game! Congratulations, Diablos!
I am, of course, posting few of the photos I took during the game. Er, at least, when I wasn’t busy watching and cheering. Yea, I was actually guilty of a few catcalls targeted to that long-haired dude from the Yellow Team that probably didn’t bring his game on. Heh. Eeep. There I go again. Hehe.

Have You Had Your Warbook Fix?
By The Parodist | October 10, 2007
I finally realise that I have it me. So, here goes —
Hi, everyone. My name is Sasha. I’m an addict.

A Warbook addict, that is.
Anyone who’s in Facebook might have heard of this free gaming software called, Warbook. It’s where you can be a General, a Warmonger, a Mage, a Mogul or just like me, a Visionary. Gawd. And I’m not even a gamer, yet I’m now spatting the lingo as if I’m this hotshot Warbook guild master or something. Heh.
But make no mistake, I’m grossly addicted. I am! My daily routine now goes like this:
- boot up the lappytop
- open IE for primary email
- open several firefox browsers (I group my work you see, 1 browser with several tabs per ‘category’)
- check email
- check stats
- check comments
- check warbook and every hour after that

Inspire and Be Inspired
By The Parodist | September 30, 2007
I have never imagined that one day I’d wake up to the fact that I have inspired a person. But somehow, along the way, I have. And the feeling that it brought with it filled my heart with such emotion that even surprised myself.
Some would say that what these people are doing are mere imitations of what I’ve done. But rather than think that, I choose to believe that they were inspired instead and they simply acted upon that inspiration. I’d much rather believe that they, too, have the same passion as I do.
However, I do admit that it sometimes feel like I’m being robbed of my ideas. Flattering or not, imitation is a form of stealing. You really don’t want someone else taking the credit for something you’ve worked so hard on, do you?
I knew I had to take a step back to survey the situation. Instead of dwelling on the negativity, I had found myself asking this question, “Why is it your passion?”
It is not a passing fancy. It’s been tried and tested through time and experience. It is my own personal creative expression. My curiosity peaked while I was still young, developed as I grew up. I have a strong desire to master and perfect it. I have original ideas. It enjoys its independence.
With the answer came a realisation.
I reckon I now understand the situation far better. It certainly feels good to know that something I do for myself triggers a want in people — perhaps to explore a similar passion. I hope they learn to let go and go off on their own — no training wheels and all — and find their own voice. The idea that there are people who know me and find inspiration in what I’ve done makes me feel grateful.
Why am I grateful? Because I am inspired in return.
So, I suggest that you guys go and let your passions inspire people.

Tips on Sports Photography, Anyone?
By The Parodist | September 24, 2007
I still owe these guys the first batch of photos from one of their practice games but I still haven’t had the time to upload them. Sorry, guys. I’m done processing the photos and all but they’re currently stuck in my desktop’s hardrive and, unfortunately, I’m currently using an 17″ HP Pavilion dv9000 lappytop, which my brother brought home from his last business trip to the US.
However, to make up for the lack of posting, here are some photos I took during last Saturday’s Game 1. Ladies and gents, I present the MBSTek Boys in Red — now fondly dubbed as the Cinderella Team — versus the Green. Unfortunate loss but I believe they can turn things around come fortnight, their last chance to enter the finals.
Author’s disclaimer, this is not UAAP. Heehee.
(More photos after the fold.)

What do you do when you’re not blogging?
By The Parodist | September 5, 2007
I’m guilty of spending hours and hours glued on TV. Er, well, I don’t watch TV really. I watch DVDs.
For the past few weeks I’ve been addicted to watching series. Let me give you a quick run down on what I’ve been immersing myself with.
1. CSI Miami, Season 5

I’ve got to admit, I didn’t really expect I’d get hooked on this CSI series. I loved the original CSI Las Vegas. And I found David Caruso’s take on his character Horatio to be so funny that I had a hard time digesting the drama. I believe Jim Carey was able to hit the nail right on its head when he did his impression — him doing a Caruso-doing-Horatio — over at the David Letterman Show.
Rico didn’t make it any easier to watch since I couldn’t help but roll my eyes over his smirking and taunting whenever we reach a scene when Horatio/Caruso does his thing. LOL. Oh, dear. I really don’t know who to blame, the actor or the director. Heh.
