Today I Am Thankful, Week 2

By The Parodist | July 13, 2008

One can never run out of things to be thankful for. I’ve been doing my best to acknowledge even the little things and be thankful for them everyday.

And since it’s Sunday once again, I’ve decided to make my Today I Am Thankful post into a weekly thing.

We all encounter people everyday. The difference lies in how we interact with them, on how we respond to them. Do we dismiss their presence? Do we acknowledge the manner in which they’ve touched our lives? Do we count them as God’s grace? Do we see the little things they’ve done to validate our existence? We need people, as hard as it is to admit. Knowing that there are special people in our lives is worth the time we spend being thankful.

Here is a list of seven (7) people who are my reasons to be thankful for this week:

1. T. A solid support. A great role model for strength. I know she loves me and will be there for me no matter what.

2. C. For being my voice of reason. For being my shrink. For being strong and firm with her own convictions, enough to infect me with sound logic amidst my confusion. She’s helping me stay in focus on what’s important.

3. H. Had taken the time to be there for me in those initial moments of weakness. Sharing happy memories and understood my sadness. I owe my Friday nights to this friend.

4. M. For making me realise that it’s time for me to fulfill one of my greatest dreams. I’ve put it off for far too long. No more excuses. I’ve got to face this fear now and she’s been a great source of encouragement.

5. R. It was just one night of lighthearted conversation. But I needed it and he was there to listen. He’s always ready to say, “I’ll be there in 5 minutes” even when it was highly improbable.

6. M. Appreciating the genuine interest this person has shown in my work and who has taken the time to get to know who I am. It’s a rare gem to find someone who would spare the time to recognise someone else’s existence even if it’s just via the virtual space we all have grown to love and appreciate — the internet.

7. JC. The knowledge of a special love, a unique relationship. He continually encourages me. His confidence that I am who I should be gives me the strength. His patience and gentle instruction comforts me. He has taught me to believe that I am significant. He is the reason I continue to hope and to find joy in who I am.

What about you guys? What are you thankful for this week? Or perhaps taking the tone of this post, who are the people whom you’re thankful for?
